The largest diamond in the world is the Portuguese Diamond. It is 127 carats. It is also considered the most valuable diamond in the world because it is so beautiful.

The legend of the diamond says that it was discovered in the former Portuguese colony of Brazil. It was brought to Portugal and became part of the Portuguese crown jewels. But, no one knows for sure if this is the true story.

For now, it sits on display in the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.

This diamond has a very interesting quality. Under ultra-violet light, the diamond glows bright blue. This is because the diamond has very strong blue fluorescence in its composition.

The largest polished diamond in the world is the Golden Jubilee Diamond, which at 545.67ct is surely one of the most valuable. The Portugese Diamond pales in comparisson, and strong fluorescence only serves to fiminish value.
