One of Portugal’s most dynamic and renowned Medieval Fairs takes place each summer at the Castle of Silves. For 2017, the festivities run for ten days from 11 to 20 August.

Visitors take part in recreations of activities as they may have happened centuries ago when Silves was the capital of the Kingdom of the Algarve. Moorish and Christian traditions are on display throughout the grounds of the castle. Families experience veiled dancers, snake charmers, jugglers, acrobats, and noblemen and ladies parading in their finest costumes. Regional foods are available a number of food and beverage concessions.

The Silves Medieval Fair begins every night at 18:00.  The nightly schedule includes:

18:00 – Festival Opens | Procession in the streets and squares
18:30 – Reading of the Notice | Entrance to the festival
19:00 – Dramatizations of Daily Life | Various areas of the city
