Cristiano Ronaldo, the world famous football player, is Portuguese.

He was born on 5 February 1985 in Funchal on the island of Madeira. His full name is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. He is named after Ronald Reagan, who was President of the United States at the time he was born.

Ronaldo started playing football when he was very young. When he was 8 years old, he was already playing for amateur team Adorinha. He played on many teams as a young teenager before joining the youth program at Sporting Club of Lisbon.

In 2003, at the age of 18 he joined Manchester United taking the now famous jersey number “7”. In 2009, Ronaldo signed with Spanish La Liga team Real Madrid where he remains today. Ronaldo is also team captain for the Portuguese national team.

Ronaldo has won many, MANY awards so far in his career, including: FIFPro Special Young Player of the Year (2004 & 2005); Portuguese Footballer of the Year (2006–07); Premier League Golden Boot (2007–08); European Golden Shoe (2007–08, 2010–11); UEFA Club Footballer of the Year (2007–08); Ballon d’Or (2008, 2013); and Onze d’Or (2008); ESPY Awards Best International Athlete (2014) and UEFA Best Player in Europe Award (2013–14).
